The teddy bear toss has become a staple of the holiday season for hockey teams looking to give back to their communities. Each year, fans pack arenas for what has become one of the sport’s most beloved themed games, but have you ever wondered how this tradition actually began?

The BC Lions punched their ticket to the Western Division Final after a thrilling 33–30 victory over the Calgary Stampeders on November 1, at BC Place. 

The BC Lions kicked off their third annual Gravy Bowl at home against the Calgary Stampeders, with both teams chasing a crucial playoff spot. A win for B.C. would lock in their postseason berth; for Calgary, a victory would improve their position but wouldn’t clinch their place just yet.

The BC Lions took on the Ottawa Redblacks at BC Place, Friday night September 12, during their first ever Campus Clash games.   Pre-game the Lions hosted a series of college themed events in their backyard pre-game party. Students from local universities represented their school while competing in flip cup, corn hole, and even a (dry) ramen eating contest. 

When you think of the top Rugby teams in the world, nations like New Zealand, Australia or England come to mind or maybe even the USA with their popular star Ilona Maher. However, in the quiet shadows sits the dominant force of Team Canada, ranked number 2 in the world. 

On Saturday BC Place filled with energy and cheers as the BC Lions reminded their fans what it was like to win at home. The Lions, who have not won at home since the season opener went on to defeat the Montreal Alouettes 36-18. With Nathan Rourke throwing 4 touchdowns and the defense swarming all evening, the Lions extended their win streak to 2.

On Sunday, July 27, 2025, the BC Lions, sitting fourth in the Western Division, hosted the second-seeded Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BC Place for their 1,200 club game. 

The BC Lions hosted the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday July 19 at BC Place in front of a lively crowd. This came as part of their third annual Watermelon Smash Game, a unique theme night aimed at raising awareness for food insecurity across Canada.

The rouge, also called a single point, is 1 point that is awarded to a team when the ball is kicked into the opposing team’s end zone and the receiving team does not return the ball back into the play.  

The BC Lions kicked off week 3 at home in a rematch against their week 2 opponent the  Winnipeg Blue Bombers, where they fell in a 34-20 defeat.  As the Lions looked to bounce back on Saturday they started Jeremiah Masoli at QB, as Nathan Rourke was still out with an injury. This is his sixtieth career start in his 12 seasons but his first start in his first season with the Lions. Masoli threw for just 281 yards and 1 touchdown.

The BC Lions kicked off their 2025 season in front of a roaring crowd of over 52,000 at BC Place on June 7, against the Edmonton Elks.   This  was a historic game for the CFL (Canadian Football League) as it was the first time two Canadian quarterbacks: Nathan Rourke  and Tre Ford, started in a head-to-head in week 1.
