The Vancouver Rise FC played their first game at their home field, Swangard Stadium on April 27, 2025. They took on the Montreal Roses FC.
Both clubs were coming off a 1-0 victory from the week prior, and looked to remain undefeated. Ultimately, the Rise would suffer their first defeat of the season with a 3-1 loss to the Roses.
In this afternoon kick-off, the Roses came ready to play, taking an early 1-0 lead over the Rise 4 minutes into the match. Directly after the Roses goal, a “Let’s Go Rise” chant from the crowd started, to encourage the team.
11 minutes later, at the 15’ mark of the first half, the Roses scored their second of the game doubling their lead to 2-0. The crowd was still behind the Rise, loudly and proudly starting their “Let’s Go Rise” chant again.
When asked about the fans chanting after the two early goals, Head Coach Anja Heiner-Møller said, “We could hear them, definitely, and it means something… That’s a big support for us and it means a lot. So yeah, that was really nice.” The fans support clearly has a positive impact on the team.
At the 42’ mark, the Roses got one more on the board to lead the Rise 3-0 going into half-time. With a deficit like this, the Rise had a lot of work to do in the remaining 45 minutes of the match.
The Rise came out stronger in the second half getting a shot on net early. They did not score until the 56’, when Quinn scored on a penalty kick.
Quinn is the player that scored the lone goal in their 1-0 win over the Calgary Wild FC, meaning they remain the Rise’s only scorer on the team.
Late into the match, the sun started to make an appearance from behind the clouds, and the Rise started applying some late pressure against the Roses as the crowd broke out into “Go Rise Go” chants.
The Rise have one more home game in front of this crowd before they head on a two game road trip. They will face off against the Halifax Tides FC on Monday, May 5. The Tides are coming off a 4-1 loss and both teams will be looking to turn around and get into the win category.
