This weekend the Abbotsford Canucks took on the San Jose Barracuda in a two day home battle. These were their final two games of a six game home advantage. These games would also lead to the Abbotsford Canucks finishing their at home stretch on a historic win streak.

The atmosphere was electric Saturday, as Flaunt Your Flannel night drove fan engagement to the game. Fans took to the game rocking their best flannel and Johnny Canuck looks. But the excitement didn’t stop there, with tensions high between both teams the fans were vocal as ever. Fans cheering, and booing, letting the refs and other team know their thoughts. The tension also lead to many altercations between the Canucks and the Barracudas.

One particular altercation at the end of the second lead to the protective glass being knocked out of place and into the stands. When asking the players their thoughts on this unusual moment, Jett Woo commented, “Its pretty funny, Sammy hits pretty hard and know what he’s capable of that and when that happens its kind of just a chuckle…” He also stated that, “it didn’t change too much” of the game and that its rare to get to play an extra minute thirty in a period. This extra minute thirty at the start of the third was definitely a moment to be hold, and players were not taking this time for granted.

Through the rough ups and injuries throughout the game on Saturday the Abbotsford Canucks managed to pull off a 3-2 victory. Similar to Saturday,  Sunday’s game was just as physical, but thankfully no more surprising moments interfered with the game. Abbotsford’s 5-4 victory, lead to the teams first ever six game win streak on home ice.

Manny Malhotra the coach of the Abbotsford Canucks had some great things to say about the team. “We are proud of the process that we’ve gone through these six games, no easy matches over this span, and then throughout the course of that the mixing of lines guys getting called up, and called down, there hasn’t been any wavering in the energy level, in the execution level, in the overall game of our guys.” This team has definitely overcome some challenges since the beginning of the season. Malhotra commented how an early goal in the third a month ago would have derailed the game, but due to the “attitude of the guys, the demeanor on the bench, the way the guys support and lift up each other…as well as their intensity in practice has translated to games.” This has shifted the team dynamic and they have been rewarded with wins for all their hard work and effort put in.

Alongside the amazing win streak the Abbotsford Canucks have achieved, Arturs Silovs has added 50 wins to his belt. As the team heads out on their three game road trip, they hope to keep up the momentum moving forward.
