The Vancouver Rise achieved a 4-0 win against the Ottawa Rapids on Sept 13 at Swangard Stadium. This win boosted them all the way to fourth place in the standings, with two points ahead of the Halifax Tides.

The Rise immediately conquered the attacking third, playing strategically to amplify pressure for Ottawa. Audrey François got her first shot on target within the first five minutes, but the ball did not see the back of the net.

François did not give up and got the Rise on the board with an assist by Sura Yekka in the 31’. Ottawa was not going down without a fight as they almost got the equalizer. However, Vancouver managed to keep the score stable heading into half time.

Jessica De Filippo extended the lead just eight minutes into the second half. This became De Filippo’s 11th goal of the season, placing her as joint-leader in the NSL scorer standings.

With increased momentum, Latifah Abdu got another goal past Melissa Dagenais. With a pass by Anna Bout, Abdu was able to take a second before firing the ball. This was Bout’s second recorded assist of the match.

Vancouver amped up the pressure, not satisfied with their three goals. Two minutes after their third, Josie Longhurst found the back of the net. With a rebound ball from Mia Pante, Longhurst shot straight into Ottawa’s net for the fourth and final goal of the match.

This pressure, ambition, drive, and smart plays are what the Rise need as the season begins to slow down. Having moved up to fourth place, Vancouver must hold on to their spot or shoot to keep moving up for a space in the offseason.

The Vancouver Rise are looking to face off against current #1 in the standings. They will face off against the Montréal Roses on Sept 19 at Swangard Stadium.
