After back-to-back road wins, the Vancouver Warriors were back in action at Rogers Arena on January 16. Despite their best efforts, including a couple of comebacks, the Warriors fell short, losing to the San Diego Seals 11-9.

The Warriors went into the game having not lost since their season opener. However, the Seals opened the scoring not even a minute into the game, scoring on their first shot.

Shortly after, the Warriors went on the powerplay, but nothing came of it. The Seals received the next powerplay and capitalized on it to double their lead, 2-0. Just over 30 seconds later, the Seals scored again to take a 3-0 lead.

With under a minute left in the first quarter, Shane Simpson scored to get the Warriors on the board. The score was 3-1 in favour of the Seals at the end of the first quarter.

The Seals scored the next two goals, putting them up 5-1, shutting down any momentum the Warriors could have built from their late first quarter goal.

Adam Charalambides scored his first of the game to put the score at 5-2, but the Seals scored the next one to put their lead back up by four, 6-2.

The Warriors went to the powerplay, and Charalambides scored his second of the game to cut the lead in half, 6-3. Jesse King made the pass down to Charalambides behind the net. Charalambides then made a sprawling jump to put it over the Seals goalkeeper's shoulder before landing in the crease.

This opened the flood gates for the Warriors offence. Reid Bowering, Keegan Bal, and Curtis Dickson each scored their first of the game to complete the Warriors comeback and tie the game 6-6.

Under 30 seconds after Dickson tied the game, the Seals re-took the lead 7-6.

The Seals kept the pressure on, getting some good chances in the final seconds of the quarter, but Warriors goalkeeper, Christian Del Bianco, kept his team within one going into the half.

The Seals added to their lead in the third quarter, going up 8-6. Charalambides completed his hattrick, getting the Warriors back within one, 8-7.

The Seals scored the next two, one more in the third quarter and one in the fourth quarter, to extend their lead to 10-7.

The Warriors were down by a larger margin earlier in the game and came back, but this time, they were racing against the clock.

With just over a minute left in the game, Bal scored his second of the game, putting the Warriors within two. A lucky bounce for the Warriors, Bal’s shot hit the post, rebounding to hit the back of the Seals goalie, bouncing into the net.

Just 8 seconds later, Marcus Klarich got another for the Warriors, getting their second comeback of the game within one. Klarich got past the Seals players to get against the goalie 1-on-1, jumping to put it up over into the back of the net.

The Warriors weren’t done yet and scored another one, but the referee quickly called it no-goal. Due to inconclusive evidence, the call on the field could not be overturned. The score remained 10-9.

The Seals scored another one more before the end of the game, for a final score of 11-9.

Despite the Warriors second comeback falling just short, they played hard to the end putting up a fight in front of their home crowd.

The Warriors head on the road for their next two games before playing again at Rogers Arena on February 7.
