Who is Cooper DeJean?

Cooper DeJean #33, is a defensive back, more specifically a cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was drafted 40th overall by the Philadelphia Eagles on Apr. 26, 2024.

Before DeJean played for the Eagles, he played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes, where Caitlin Clark played basketball. During his college career, he was unanimously voted to the 2023 All-American honors.

DeJean made his first National Football League (NFL) start for the Eagles during week 6 when they took on the Cleveland Browns. In this game, DeJean had three tackles (TKL) and three assist on tackles (AST), and a 0.5 sack (SCK). Since then, DeJean has been a steady presence for the Eagles, putting up at least one TKL a game, and even nominated for NFL defensive rookie of the year.

The Eagles made it to the 2024 playoffs where DeJean continued to be a crucial part of the team. During the playoffs DeJean has continued to put up steady number’s. One thing DeJean has yet to do in his rookie year, is get an interception (INT). Until Super Bowl LIX.

DeJean’s birthday and Super Bowl LIX both took place on Feb. 9, 2025, and one of the team’s playing was the Philadelphia Eagles. Not even a full calendar year after he was drafted in the NFL, DeJean made it to the Super Bowl where he got his first ever career INT that he returned for a touchdown (TD).

This INT came against the Kansas City Chiefs Quarterback (QB), Patrick Mahomes. DeJean and the Eagles defense did a great job of shutting down the Chiefs offense, holding them at zero points through the first half and through almost all of the third quarter.

Holding the Chiefs to no points for this long is an impressive feat, but DeJean made history in this game. With his first ever career interception that DeJean ran for a TD, he became the first player in NFL history to score a TD in the Super Bowl on his birthday. What a way to turn 22!

Not only is making history a great way to turn 22, but so is winning the Super Bowl! The Chiefs made a late push to come back, but the final score was 40-22 in favour of the eagles, getting Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, and the rookie, Cooper DeJean their first Super Bowl wins and rings!

DeJean got his first career INT, returned it to get 6 points, and won Super Bowl LIX all on his 22 birthday, capping off his rookie year in the best way possible!
