Abbotsford Canucks fly high against the San Diego Gulls

On March 28, 2026 the Abbotsford Canucks faced off against the San Diego Gulls for the beginning of their final homestead. The last time these two teams met Abbotsford swept the series on home ice, and looked to do it again. 


Ben Berard returned to the lineup after an injury sidelined him for a few games. Guillaume Brisebois made his return to the Abbotsford ice after being sidelined by injury for most of the season, this also marked his 300th AHL game played. 


The first period started strong with Brisebois opening the scoring at 2:34. The goal was assisted by Jack Thompson and Ty Mueller. 


Chase Wouters went to the box at 3:07 in the first, for interference, putting San Diego on the power play. Abbotsford was successful on the penalty kill. 


Turn overs and intercepted passes were a struggle for both teams, leading to breaks in play which caused a number of close calls for both teams. 


Ben Berard got the second goal of the game at 11:37 in the first. The goal was assisted by Chase Stillman and Kirill Kudryavtsev.


San Diego’s Nico Myatovic went to the box at 14:16 for tripping, giving Abbotsford the man advantage. San Diego was successful on the penalty kill. 


Austin Brimmer went to the box at 17:31 for holding, putting San Diego on the power play. Abbotsford was successful on the penalty kill. 


The first period ended 2-0 for Abbotsford. 


Wouters went to the box at 2:45 in the second period for slashing, giving San Diego the man advantage. Abbotsford was successful on the penalty kill. 


Both teams battled hard to get a point in the second, Abbotsford looked to extend their lead while San Diego looked to get themselves on the board. 


Abbotsford pulled their goalie with just over 7 minutes left in the period for an extra attacker. 


San Diego’s Tyson Hinds went to the box for hooking at 12:51, sending Abbotsford to the power play. Danila Klimovich capitalized on the man advantage at 14:41 putting the game 3-0 for Abbotsford. The goal was assisted by Sawyer Mynio and Stillman. 


JiřÍ Patera made a number of incredible saves, challenging the San Diego offense. 


The physicality of the game began to pick up after the third goal, leading to San Diego’s Hinds going to the box at 16:32 for cross-checking. However, Arshdeep Bains would also go to the box moments later at 17:19 for goaltender interference, putting the game 4-on-4. Both teams were successful on the penalty kills. 


The second period ended 3-0 for Abbotsford. 


The third period started with both teams battling hard to get a point in the third. Abbotsford looked for their fourth, while San Diego looked to get on the board. 


Brimmer went to the box at 11:46 in the third for slashing, giving San Diego the man advantage. Abbotsford was successful on the penalty kill. 


San Diego’s Justin Bailey scored at 16:17 in the third, putting the game 3-1 for Abbotsford. 


San Diego pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. San Diego’s Judd Caulfield capitalized, putting the game 3-2 at 17:02 in the third. 


Wouters fought back, putting the game 4-2 at 17:37 in the third. The goal was assisted by Bains and Nikolai Kynzhov.


Mueller capitalized on the empty net at 18:09, the goal was assisted by Berard. 


The game ended 5-2 for Abbotsford. 


The Abbotsford Canucks will face off against the San Diego Gulls again tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm, PST at Rogers Forum.
