Abbotsford Canucks split the series with a shutout win over the Colorado Eagles

March 7, 2026 marked the second of the two game face-off between the Abbotsford Canucks and the Colorado Eagles. Colorado took game 1 with a 5-2 victory, but Abbotsford looked to strike back in game 2. 


Abbotsford also celebrated their women in sports night, highlighting the many incredible women who work within the Canucks organization and keep game day running smooth. 


Jenn Gardiner and Madison Samoskevich of the Vancouver Goldeneyes did the ceremonial puck drop. 


The physicality and tensions were high right from the drop. Abbotsford wanted to split the series, while Colorado looked for the sweep. 


Chase Stillman went to the box at 5:03 in the first for tripping, putting Colorado on the power play. With 31 seconds in the Abbotsford penalty kill, Colorado’s Jack Ahcan went to the box at 6:32 for tripping, putting the game 4-on-4. Ty Mueller opened the scoring at 6:42. The goal was assisted by Sawyer Mynio. 


Jack Thompson got his second goal as an Abbotsford Canuck at 8:05 in the first, on the power play, with the assist from Chase Stillman. 


Colorado’s Alex Gagne went to the box at 10:13 for cross-checking, giving Abbotsford the man advantage. Colorado was successful on the penalty kill. 


Christian Felton served a too many men penalty at 16:19, putting Colorado on the power play. Abbotsford was successful on the penalty kill. 


The first period ended 2-0 for Abbotsford. 


The second period started with the same intensity as the first. Both teams drove the puck into the opposing zone, looking to capitalize on the play. 


The period remained clean, with no penalties being called through the first 15 minutes of play. 


Danila Klimovich scored at 18:07 in the second, assisted by Ben Berard and Thompson. 


The second period ended 3-0 for Abbotsford. 


After no penalties in the second period, the third period started with Colorado' s Ivan Ivan going to the box 19 seconds, for a double minor for high-sticking. Moments later Colorado’s Mark Senden went to the box for tripping at 51 seconds into the period. Putting the game 5-on-3 for Abbotsford. 


Mueller capitalized on the 2 man advantage, for his second goal of the game at 1:11 into the period. The goal was assisted by Klimovich and Thompson. However, Colorado would challenge the goal, the challenge would be unsuccessful and the goal would stand. 


The game would remain 5-on-3 with the first part of Ivan’s double minor being taken off. Colorado would be successful on the second part of the double minor penalty kill. They would also be successful on the final penalty kill, keeping the game 4-0. 


Tensions started to boil over between the teams throughout the third.  


Nikolai Knyzhov went to the box for cross-checking at 11:00 in the third, giving Colorado the man advantage. Abbotsford was successful on the penalty kill. 


The physicality and tensions were high going into the dying minutes of the games. 


Colorado's Keaton Middleton went to the box for roughing at 13:32, putting Abbotsford on the power play. Colorado was successful on the penalty kill. 


Colorado's Luke Toporowski went to the box at 17:15 in the third for elbowing, giving Abbotsford the man advantage. Colorado was successful on the penalty kill. 


Tensions flared sending multiple players to the box from both teams. Cole Clayton got a 10 minute misconduct for continuing altercation, Dino Kambeitz got 2 minutes for roughing and 10 minutes for continuing altercation. Colorado’s Middleton went to the box for a 10 minute misconduct for continuing altercation, Toporowski got a 2 minutes for roughing and a 10 minute misconduct for continuing altercation. This would take place with 27 seconds remaining on the clock. 


Abbotsford secured a 4-0 victory over Colorado, their first win over the team this season. This was Ty Young’s first AHL career shutout.  


After the game media talked with Young about how it felt to get this win and how he prepared stating, “Obviously [we didn’t have] our full lineup, and we just kind of take it as it goes, and everybody kind of got extra opportunities tonight, and kind of capitalized on that, and it feels pretty good for the whole group.” 


The Abbotsford Canucks are back in action on Tuesday March 10, where they face off against the Manitoba Moose, at 7 pm, PST, at Rogers Forum.
