Abbotsford Canucks were the top dogs in this series matchup against the San Diego Gulls

January 25, 2026 marked game 2 of the series between the Abbotsford Canucks and the San Diego Gulls. Abbotsford took game 1 with a 3-1 victory and looked for the series sweep.


The game had some furry friends join the fun as Heart & Soul Dog and Cat Rescue brought some puppies for snuggling. While players brought their dogs for some friendly competition between periods, to see who would be the top dog. 


Anri Ravinskis returned to the lineup after injury, while Aku Koskenvuo got his start in net. 


The game started quickly with Ty Mueller opening the scoring at 1:57 in the first. The goal was assisted by Arshdeep Bains and Cole Clayton. This would be Bains 100th AHL assist. 


The energy remained consistent throughout the first, with both teams battling hard for the puck. Abbotsford had a few opportunities to widen the lead, while San Diego looked to tie it up in the last half of the first. 


Koskenvuo was a wall throughout the first, making some incredible saves keeping the game 1-0 for Abbotsford. 


Similar to the first, the second period started with heavy offense from Abbotsford. They came close to opening the scoring in the first few moments of play. 


Danila Klimovich went to the box at 4:54 for tripping, putting San Diego on the power play. Abbotsford was successful on the penalty kill. 


Klimovich came out of the box and scored the second goal of the game at 7:12. The goal was assisted by Cole Clayton. 


The energy in the building ramped up after the second goal. Abbotsford continued to push for a wider lead, while San Diego battled hard for their first goal of the game. 


San Diego’s Stian Solberg went to the box at 10:15 for interference, putting Abbotsford on the man advantage. San Diego was successful on the penalty kill. 


Victor Mancini scored at 18:15 in the second, extending the Abbotsford lead to 3-0. The goal was assisted by Dino Kambeitz and Mueller. 


The second period ended 3-0 for Abbotsford. 


The third period started with tensions high as Abbotsford looked to keep the lead, and San Diego looked to close the gap. 


Jujhar Khaira went to the box at 3:42 for tripping, putting San Diego on the power play. Abbotsford was successful on the penalty kill. 


Both teams continued to battle hard throughout the opening half of the final period. 


Mueller scored his second goal of the night at 10:42 in the third. The goal was assisted by Jonathan Lekkerimäki. Putting the game 4-0 for Abbotsford. 


San Diego’s Ryan Carpenter went to the box for tripping, giving Abbotsford the man advantage. San Diego was successful on the penalty kill. 


Clayton and San Diego’s Jan Myšák both got 10 minute misconducts for continuing altercations with 1:40 left in the period. 


Abbotsford won 4-0, taking the series with their first shutout out of the season, as well as Koskenvuo's first AHL career shutout. 


When asked what his thoughts were going into the game Koskenvuo had this to say; “[I] was just focusing on the next puck, going from one puck to another trying to help the boys win. And you know, the guys played great in front of me tonight, so it made my job easy.” 


When asked about being trusted in these moments he stated, “I think it's just an opportunity, you know, to grow every day and see where I can go. So an important moment today, but just got to keep going.” 


The Abbotsford Canucks head out on the road for a 3 game road trip. They will be back at Rogers Forum on February 6, to take on the San Jose Barracuda.
