
On March 12, 2025, Abbotsford Canucks took on the Bakersfield Condor in the second game of the series.
The night centred on the Indigenous community that we share our land with. Alice McKay delivered an incredible land acknowledgement highlighting the importance of coming together as a nation.
The Abbotsford Canucks were coming off of a 6-2 win from the night before, leading to an intense game. The opening moments tensions were high, with big hits, and a penalty for the Condors. However, the Condors rallied back opening the scoring in the first.
The Canucks got a power play to finish off the first period, leading to some shots on net and solid game play. However, the puck did not find its way into the net, leaving the first period 1-0 for the Condors.
Intermission started with an incredible PowWow performance by local Indigenous dancers. The concourse was home to a bannock booth, beading table, a local band had a table asking people what the meaning of family was to them, and a table selling Indigenous artwork.
A physical start to the second period kept the game moving forward. The Canucks opened the scoring in the second. Also pulling the first penalty of the period, but with a great penalty kill managed to keep the score 1-1.
Second intermission kept fan engagement high, and invested in the game, ready to head into the third. With the game tied, physicality died down and focus shifted to game play.
Canucks scored the third and final of the game. Ending the game with a 2-1 victory for the Canucks. Making this the Canucks first back to back win, since January.
Alongside the Canucks team accomplishments, Sammy Blais hit 100 points assisting in both goals of the night. Ty Young started in net for the first time in months proving his skills, and stopping 32 out of the 33 shots on net.
