Final two home games for the Abbotsford Canucks before playoff hockey

April 11, 2025 marked the final two home games of the Abbotsford Canucks against the Calgary Wranglers.
Abbotsford entered into these final home games hoping to keep their win streak alive before heading into their final three games of the regular season on the road. Before heading into the playoffs, starting on home ice.
Fans showed up both nights to show support for Abbotsford in their final home games. They kept the energy alive throughout the games, even though the outcomes were not what they had hoped for.
The first period started off slow, with little action on either side even with both teams playing hard. However, one wrong move led to Calgary pulling a penalty shot, which led to the first goal of the game.
Abbotsford took the first penalty of the game, giving Calgary the advantage. A second penalty followed closely after, leaving Abbotsford playing 3-on-5. Calgary took advantage of Abbotsford being down two men scoring the second goal of the game.
Calgary took their first penalty, giving Abbotsford their first power play of the night. This would lead to Abbotsford scoring their first goal of the game.
Abbotsford then took a delay of game penalty with just over 2 minutes left in the first. Calgary was unable to capitalize on the man advantage, leaving the first 2-1 for Calgary.
The second period started with a Calgary goal, an odd bounce and unfortunate deflect lead to the goal.
Tensions started to rise during the second. Both teams played hard, Calgary trying to solidify their spot in the playoffs, while Abbotsford hoped to keep their win streak going.
Abbotsford scored with just under 2 minutes left in the second. Putting them back to a goal difference. They then managed to close the difference with 45 seconds left in the period, tying the game 3-3.
Calgary took a penalty with 11 seconds left in the period, putting Abbotsford on the man advantage going into the third.
Entering the third with a tied game and Abbotsford on the power play, the energy was insane. Calgary managed to kill the penalty with no goals allowed. They also opened the scoring for the third period in a row.
Abbotsford answered back minutes later, tying the game up 4-4. Both teams were fighting hard to break the tie and keep the game from going into overtime.
With tensions high, both teams pulled penalties, putting them 4-on-4, with just under 8 minutes left in the third.
The game ended 4-4 and headed into overtime, where both teams fought hard once again sending it to a shootout.
Abbotsford was unable to come back in the shootout, ending their 13 game win streak. However, they managed to get a point making it a 14 game point streak.
Saturday's game was the final home game of the season, as well as Abbotsford’s fan appreciation night. Both teams came into the game with high hopes.
Abbotsford hoped for a win to close out a phenomenal regular season, hoping to move a few points closer to the number one spot in the Pacific division. While Calgary was still hoping for a last minute playoff spot.
The fans on night two for the Abbotsford and Calgary matchup was amazing. Both teams came out playing hard in the first.
Tensions were high with a fight occurring in the first four minutes of the game leading to both teams taking a penalty, and a Calgary player exit. With both teams taking major penalties, teams stayed 5-on-5.
Canucks opened the scoring with a power play goal, however, the goal went under review and the goal was overturned. Fans and players alike were upset with the decision.
Abbotsford went onto the power play, hoping to capitalize on the man advantage. However they were unable to do so. The period would remain much the same leaving the score 0-0 going into the second.
Tensions remained high with heavy hits and aggressive game play. Abbotsford ended up taking a penalty, putting Calgary at the advantage. Abbotsford managed to kill off the penalty, playing strong defense.
Calgary scored the first goal of the game with 7 minutes remaining in the second. Shifting the energy for Abbotsford driving them to play harder which lead to them securing their first official goal of the game.
The remainder of the second both teams continued to fight hard looking to break the tie. With the energy remaining tense both Calgary and Abbotsford took penalties. Abbotsford took a 10 minute misconduct, on top of two 2 minute minors.
Calgary took advantage of the power play scoring their second goal of the game and taking the lead. However, they took a last minute penalty at the end of the second, giving Abbotsford the man advantage to start the third.
Abbotsford started the third period on a power play, and were looking to tie the game up, however Calgary was able to hold them off.
Calgary took their second penalty of the period, again they were able to hold off Abbotsford keeping their lead.
With just over 6 minutes to go in the third, Calgary was able to secure a two goal lead. Calgary held on to the lead, winning the game 3-1.
The fans were excited and engaged throughout the game, consistently showing their support for their home team. Abbotsford played with heart and physicality throughout the game.
Though it wasn’t the end to the home season that Abbotsford was hoping for, they still have three more regular season games on the road to secure a win. Calgary has officially clinched their playoff spot with back to back wins.
If Abbotsford stays in second place they will have home ice advantage for the first round of playoffs. However, if they manage to get into first place in the division, the first round will be played on the road.
