Vancouver Rise FC fall short against AFC Toronto

The Vancouver Rise FC battled against AFC Toronto in a devastating loss on June 11, 2025 at Swangard stadium.
As kickoff began, Toronto looked more organized than Vancouver. This led to an early goal, scored in the 3’ by Emma Regan.
The match continued with Toronto dominating the attacking third. With quick feet and smarter plays, the game did not look good for Vancouver.
Halfway through the first, Vancouver began to play smarter. As the game went on, the team gained more rhythm, but Toronto refused to allow any goals. At the 43’, Toronto managed to strike again with a goal by Kaylee Hunter.
At intermission, Vancouver needed to regroup and determine a new strategy. Toronto was playing smart, fast and with more determination.
As the whistle blew for the second half, Vancouver had gained more rhythm. They began taking more risks to reach the net.
The crowd was definitely helping as they cheered loudly every time Holly Ward touched the ball.
Mariah Lee struck in the 68’, giving Vancouver fans hope for a comeback. But Nikayla Small from Toronto furthered the lead just 5 minutes later in the 73’.
Trailing 2 goals behind, Vancouver began to look a little frantic in their game. They began to rush to the net without taking time to prepare their shot. This made Toronto’s defence regain the ball and keep them from scoring.
With 6 minutes added to the clock, Vancouver gained an opportunity to score. Quinn stepped up to take a free shot, adding another goal for Vancouver.
With a 3-2 final score, Vancouver fell short to Toronto in this match. The Vancouver Rise next game at Swangard Stadium is on June 22, 2025.
