The Vancouver sports scene welcomed a new power-house on November 21, 2025. The Vancouver Goldeneyes made their debut in front of 14,958 people at the Pacific Coliseum, making it the highest attended home-game in PWHL history. This game marked a new era for Vancouver sports.
The crowd erupted in loud cheers as the team took the ice. The Goldeneyes faced their fellow expansion team, the Seattle Torrent, in the first ever battle of the west.
Iconic Canadian superstar, Christine Sinclair was there for the ceremonial puckdrop. Sinclair, a Burnaby native and Olympic medallist, is widely known for her relentless efforts in promoting women’s sports.
Seattle’s Julia Gosling opened the scoring at 14:40, with Vancouver’s Sarah Nurse following just 3 minutes later at 17:41. Nurse celebrated with her teammates on the ice, achieving the first goal in Goldeneyes history.
Gosling scored again late in the first, giving the Torrent the lead as they headed into the first intermission. The second period had plenty of action but no scoring.
The Goldeneyes were quick to settle the score with a goal by Gabby Rosenthal with just 59 seconds on the clock in the third.
The game increased in intensity as both teams tried to get the lead in the game. Seattle’s Hannah Bilka was able to push the Torrent forward once again at 13:47.
Vancouver refused to give up their first victory on home ice. With just 2 minutes left in the period, the Goldeneyes decided to pull Emerance Maschmeyer to gain an extra skater. The strategy paid off, allowing Claire Thompson to even the score late in the period.
The Pacific Coliseum was buzzing in excitement as the players skated into overtime. Quick plays and smart passes had the entire building on the edge of their seats…but not for long. With an assist by Tereza Vanišová, Vancouver’s Abby Boreen clutched the game winning goal in just 1:36 of overtime.
Just like that, the Vancouver Goldeneyes made history by achieving their first win of the season in their inaugural match. With waving towels and loud chants, Goldeneyes fans celebrated along with their new sports team.
Women’s sports continue to rise in the city of Vancouver. The first-ever Goldeneyes victory is just the beginning.
