The Pacific Coliseum was full of cheering fans as the Goldeneyes secured a 4-3 win over the Montréal Victoire on Apr 21.
This was the South Asian Heritage Night full of honoring details to the community. Arshdeep Bains, 2025 Calder Cup champion, joined for the ceremonial puck drop before the game started.
Vancouver had good scoring opportunities early in the first period but had difficulty closing. Kristen Campbell was stopping all of Victoire's shots on net as well. At 15:12, Sarah Nurse opened the scoring with an assist by Tereza Vanišová.
The second period saw an increase in confidence coming from the Goldeneyes. The game intensity also went up, with Montréal wanting to even the score. But their efforts were null as Campbell delivered an elite performance.
Vancouver’s second goal came at 9:25 of the second by captain Ashton Bell. Assisted again by Vanišová, this power play goal extended the lead and had the building roaring.
Vanišová got yet another point at 1:31 of the third with a goal. The whole team was dominating the offensive zone, shooting as much as they could on net.
This method resulted in goal number four at 5:06 by Claire Thomspson. Montréal was not happy with this and organized a risky play. The Victoire pulled their goalie to have six skaters…it worked out for them.
Hayley Scamurra got a hat trick late in the third. The Goldeneyes were able to hold on to the lead with a final score of 4-3.
“We were playing desperate hockey. And against a good team like Vancouver, you have to play that way for the whole time, all 60 minutes,” said Montréal Head Coach Kori Cheverie.
