“It was definitely a perfect debut for us — I think having the PWHL in Vancouver at the same time GATG was starting up felt like the stars aligning because we got to host our dream event so early on. All the girls were so sweet and the energy was buzzing the whole night, and it was incredible to see all our hard work come together in something that was joined by so many girls.” - Maggie, Girls at the Games Marketing Intern

The Professional Women’s Hockey League is taking the game to nine neutral sites all over Canada and the United states. Cities include Seattle, Vancouver, Denver, Quebec City, Edmonton, Buffalo, Raleigh, Detroit, and St. Louis. The purpose of this takeover tour is to expand the PWHL to different cities, and hopes are high for Vancouver as around 19,000 people were in attendance at the game at Rogers Arena. And while the energy is the building was electric, the energy at the Girls at the Games watch and after party was just as thrilling.
Girls at the Games held our first event at Good Co. Granville for the PWHL takeover tour. The purpose of our watch and after party was to create a space for women to watch sports and meet other women who share similar passions. During the party we had some fun activities and booths like:
Bracelet Making: Which was a big hit! Lots of people joined together and made sports themed bracelets.
Photo Booth: A pink themed photo booth which was decorated beautifully with photos taken by our talented photographers!
Prizes: Cool prizes that were given out at each intermission of the game, like an Uber and Tim Hortons gift card!
The atmosphere at the watch party was bright and energetic! Many people connected with each other and shared their love for women’s sports.
This event has brought many girls in sports together and created many friendships. A Girls at the Games team member, Maggie, said, “It was definitely a perfect debut for us — I think having the PWHL in Vancouver at the same time GATG was starting up felt like the stars aligning cause we got to host our dream event so early on. The Girls at the Games also had some team members at the Rogers Arena, interviewing many people including the next generation who were very excited to see the PWHL game. These interviews can be found on our social media pages. Stay tuned for more events that are coming up!
