Vancouver Whitecaps: Berhalter scores two in 4-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes

On October 5, 2025, the Vancouver Whitecaps took on the San Jose Earthquakes, taking a 4-1 win in this Western Conference matchup.
Both teams were eager for a win, as the Whitecaps looked to secure a top-four position in the West, while the Earthquakes looked to earn a spot in the playoffs.
With this win over the Earthquakes, the Whitecaps have now extended their win streak to 10. The last time they lost a match was to the Earthquakes back in early August.
The away team got an early chance, but centre back Ralph Priso stopped the ball on the goal line.
The Whitecaps came out strong, getting some early chances. They eventually got on the score sheet with a goal from Rayan Elloumi in the 39’. This marked Elloumi’s second of the season across all competitions.
The assist went to Sebastian Berhalter, his fifteenth of the season across all competitions, extending his team lead. This was also Berhalter’s twenty-sixth assist for the Whitecaps across all competitions in the MLS era, tying him with Pedro Morales for second all-time.
After the opening goal, the Whitecaps did not let up, keeping pressure on for the remainder of the first half. At the halftime whistle, the score was 1-0.
Thomas Müller extended the Whitecaps lead in the 57’. This is his sixth goal across all competitions, in 5 Whitecaps appearances. The assist went to Ali Ahmed, his tenth assist of the season, extending his career high.
Berhalter got his first of the night and the Whitecaps led 3-0 in the 74’. This was the Whitecaps ninetieth goal of the season across all competitions, further extending their MLS club record.
The Earthquakes prevented Yohei Takaoka from getting a much-earned clean sheet in the 89’, to make the score 3-1.
Berhalter quickly got one back for the Whitecaps in the 2’ of stoppage time. His second of the match marked his eighth goal of the season across all competitions. Earning 3 points in the match, Berhalter tied Brian White for the team-lead of 23 goal contributions.
Müller notched an assist on the goal, marking his tenth goal contribution in his last 5 games played.
The Whitecaps won the game 4-1.
