Vancouver Whitecaps Celebrate The 86ers Against Houston Dynamo FC

Before the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Vancouver 86ers ran the turf in the city. The modern MLS team decided to honor their roots with an 80’s themed match, paying homage to the 86ers. After a hard fought battle, the Whitecaps were held scoreless while Houston won the match with a goal.
On August 8 at BC Place, the home team came out into the field energized. Andrés Cubas had an early try, stopped by the Houston goalie. As the match continued, Houston’s strong defense would not let any ball slip by. Vancouver was persistent in seeking a way to the back of the net but all tries were shut down.
Franco Negri scored an electric goal in the 34’. After the lone goal, the Dynamo fortified their defense. The Whitecaps pushed for a goal, getting one denied for a foul committed against Hector Herrera. Even when cancelled, the goal gave Vancouver the necessary force to keep trying.
However, all efforts were null with the Dynamo’s defense. With a 1-0 score, Houston gained their fifth straight clean sheet. The Whitecaps will not face Dallas FC on Aug 22.
