The Vancouver Whitecaps closed out their five game homestand with a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on April 25.
In the seventh minute, Cheikh Sabaly opened the scoring for the Whitecaps. This was his second of the season and as a Whitecap. The assists went to Thomas Müller and Édier Ocampo, and with the primary assist, Müller now has 15 goal contributions, 11 goals, and 4 assists, in 16 Major League Soccer regular season appearances.
What would eventually be the Whitecaps game winner came in the 24th minute by Brian White, with the assists going to Andrés Cubas and Tate Johnson.
Just under 10 minutes later, Colorado was on the scoresheet. With players falling over one another, the ball snuck past goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka. There was a VAR review for a handball, but the goal was ultimately upheld. This was the first goal all season that the Whitecaps conceded with Cubas on the pitch, ending the 644 minute streak.
At the end of the first half, the Whitecaps led 2-1.
In the 77th minute Bruno Caicedo came running down the pitch with the Rapids hot in his heels. They eventually caught him, but he kept fighting while down on the turf, sending the ball over the goal line. This goal was also VAR reviewed for a handball, but this time it was overturned, and the score remained 2-1 in favour of the Whitecaps.
Caicedo kept playing his game, and in the 85th minute had a key assist on the Whitecaps third goal of the match. He came streaming down the left side of the pitch, bringing the ball to end before centering it to White who put it home in the bottom left corner for his second of the match and eighth goal of the season, all of which have come in MLS play. Caicedo had the primary assist and Sebastian Berhalter earned the secondary assist, his 50th goal contribution for the Whitecaps.
The Whitecaps last chance came in the final seconds of stoppage time, with a shot from Caicedo that the Rapids goalkeeper got his hands on to send wide of the net. The home team won with a final score of 3-1.
Next up, the Whitecaps head on a five game Western Conference road trip beginning against the LA Galaxy on May 2. The MLS then goes on break for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. After the break, they spend July on the road as well. They officially make their return to BC Place on August 1st when they host Los Angeles FC.
