It was a Friday night game day for the Whitecaps when they faced Sporting Kansas City, beating them 3-0, and keeping the top spot amongst the MLS. The Whitecaps had a strong showing, taking full advantage of taking on a team who was playing their third game in the span of six days.
Emmanuel Sabbi opened the scoring in the 13th minute, his second goal and fourth goal contribution of the season across all competitions. Sabbi got an assist later in the match as well, making this his second game of the season where he notched a goal and an assist. The first was in their 6-0 win against Minnesota United FC in March.
10 minutes later, Bruno Caicedo scored his first goal as a Whitecap to give the Whitecap a 2-0 lead. Caicedo’s shot hit the inside of the right post to go in.
The Whitecaps weren’t done yet, and five minutes later, it was Thomas Müller with a goal to get on the scoresheet, with Sabbi and Tristan Blackmon getting the assists. It was a great play by Sabbi who was streaming down the right side of the pitch and saved the ball from going out in the bottom right corner. He passed it to the middle of the box, and Müller did the rest, heading it into the back of the net for the Whitecaps third goal of the half.
In the second half, the Whitecaps kept the pressure on, holding on to their 3-0 lead and winning their third match in a row.
Next up, the Whitecaps close out their five game homestand, hosting the Colorado Rapid on April 25. They then head on the road for five games before the 2026 FIFA World Cup break.
