The Vancouver Whitecaps FC took on the Minnesota United FC on May 28, 2025. It was a match dominated by the Whitecaps, but Minnesota held strong keeping them off the board for a final draw of 0-0.

This was the Whitecaps last Major League Soccer (MLS) game before they travel to Mexico to play in the CONCACAF Champions Club Final on June 1, 2025. They were looking to get a win, but more importantly, make sure no player got injured, which they managed to do.

The first half saw a lot of opportunities from the Whitecaps with chances coming from Jayden Nelson, Mathías Laborda, and J.C. Ngando. All were held off the scoresheet and despite play favouring the Whitecaps, the first half ended in a scoreless draw.

In the second half, the Whitecaps picked up where they left off, applying pressure to Minnesota. However, neither team was able to break the 0-0 deadlock, and both teams walked away with a clean sheet and a point.

The Whitecaps play a big game on June 1, 2025, and are ready to take on Cruz Azul. The winner of this game wins the CONCACAF Championship and will play in the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, taking place in 2029.

Cruz Azul has had the last couple of weeks to rest, unlike the Whitecaps. However key players Ali Ahmed and Brian White did not start the game against Minnesota. While they did take the field, they played only 30’. Hopefully, playing a reduced time will help these offensive powerhouses be more rested. Especially, since they will be without central midfielder, Sebastian Berhalter, due to yellow card accumulation.

Exactly one week after this winner-takes-all game, on June 8, 2025, the Whitecaps are back at BC Place to take on Seattle Sounders FC in an MLS regular season game.
