June 24, 2025 kicked off the Vancouver Canadians second half of the season, while also starting their 6 game home series against the Tri-City Dust Devils.
This was the second time this season the two teams would play each other, the first was in Tri-City earlier this month where the Canadians won the series 5-1. They looked to lock down a second series win at home.
June 24 was also Women’s Empowerment Night at Nat Bailey Stadium, where women of all ages came out to support the Canadians, while also celebrating themselves.
Sports broadcasting icon Hazel Mae reported on the game, while also throwing one of the first pitches.
She was joined by olympic ski cross medalist Marielle Thompson, javelin olympian Liz Gleadle, Vancouver Rise soccer player Shannon Woeller, UFC Flyweight Jamey-Lyn Horth Wessels and GATG photographer Jen Field in throwing the first pitch.
The Canadians were sporting their Lumberjack jersey’s for this game and we will be seeing them again on July 1 and July 26.
The beginning of the game started off slow with neither team scoring a run. Though some players managed to get on base, no one would make it past second.
In the top of the sixth the Dust Devils secured their first run of the game. The Canadians would score 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth, 2 of which were home runs, hit by Sean Keys and Eddie Micheletti Jr.
The seventh inning also saw some action with the Dust Devils scoring 2 runs, while the Canadians scored a single run.
The eighth inning didn’t see any runs scored by the Dust Devils, but the Canadians would go on to score 2 more, to secure a 6-3 win to start the series.
Wednesday saw the Dust Devils secure a win, while Thursday's game was rained out and would be made up on Saturday with a double header.
Friday’s game would also go to the Dust Devils giving them a 2-1 series lead ahead of Saturday's double header.
Saturday’s game was Marvel Superhero day at Nat Bailey Stadium, where the first 2500 fans got special X-Men/Canadians comicbooks.
With 2 games in 1 day each game would be 7 innings rather than the regular 9, with a 40 minute break between games.
Much like Tuesday's game not a lot of action occurred until the bottom of the fourth inning where the Canadians would secure 4 runs.
The Dust Devils would put themselves on the board with 2 runs in the top of the fifth, but those would be the last runs of the first game.
The Canadians would take game 1 with a 4-2 win. Putting the series 2-2 before game 2.
The brief break between games seemed to be what the Dust Devils needed as they came out swinging in the top of the first securing 2 runs. Followed by a third in the top of the second inning.
It seemed as though the Canadians had lost their steam, but in the bottom of the fourth inning they secured 3 runs, tying the game.
The battle would continue as both teams tried to break the 3-3 tie. The game would go into extra innings where the Dust Devils would score at the top of the ninth off a Canadians error. This would be the final run scored.
The Dust Devils would win 4-3 giving them a 3-2 series lead ahead of their final game on Sunday. They would secure the final win 1-0, ending the series 4-2 for the Dust Devils.
The Vancouver Canadians next home game takes place on Canada Day, July 1, 2025 against the Everett Aquasox.
